Senator Pierson,

We believe Citizens United is the single greatest contributor to the loss of our democracy. In 2012 and 2016 the California public voted on and passed resolutions recommending that our representatives take action to overturn Citizens. We dropped the ball. Now it is time to pick it up and go for the touchdown.

We suggest that California pass legislation that puts controls on corporations and their activities to control our elected officials. The suggested law is divided into two parts, the setup, then the law. Both should be included in the legislation.

Part 1 makes the case that the courts can only enforce existing law. The Constitution does not support rights for corporations. Congress has never passed any such law. Nor has any state. The Courts do not have the right to grant corporations the rights of people.

Part 2, the law, declares that corporations have only the authorities and abilities explicitly assigned to them. It forbids corporations from taking any action to affect any election and explicitly makes them subject to the laws of the states.

Senator Pierson, our democracy is in grave danger. Please consider taking immediate action. Please respond with your thoughts and ideas.
